An ambulance carrying a pregnant woman in labour was allegedly stuck in a traffic jam for nearly 15 minutes in Mato Bazaar under Chandbali police station limits in Bhadrak district, causing her to writhe in pain inside the vehicle on Friday. The distressing incident unfolded while she was being taken to the Chandbali Community Health Centre for delivery.

According to reports, the ambulance was stuck in heavy traffic, and there was no space to move or make way. The road lacked sufficient width for vehicles to manoeuvre around, creating a deadlock situation.
Traffic congestion in the area has become a regular occurrence, largely due to shops set up illegally on both sides of the road, leaving very little space for vehicle movement.

Local residents finally intervened and helped the ambulance get out of the crowded area, allowing it to reach the hospital on time, reportedly. However, the repeated traffic congestion in the market area has led to mounting dissatisfaction among the local population, who have long complained about the lack of enforcement.

The situation is particularly concerning as there is a police outpost located just about 250 metres away from the market. Despite its close proximity, no concrete administrative action has been taken to address or manage the chronic traffic issues, reportedly. From the market to the police outpost, heavy jams are reported every single day.

Multiple altercations between the public and the police have been reported during these jams, yet no effective measures have been initiated so far, complained the locals. No comments could be obtained from senior administrative officials on the issue.
