A powerful explosion, suspected to be from firecrackers, on Sunday rocked Jiakata-Chhatrapur village in the Puruna Cuttack area of Boudh district, severely damaging a residential building. The blast, which occurred around 10:30 am, caused the roof to collapse, raising fears that people may have been trapped under the debris.

A powerful explosion, suspected to be from firecrackers, on Sunday rocked Jiakata-Chhatrapur village in the Puruna Cuttack area of Boudh district, severely damaging a residential building. The blast, which occurred around 10:30 am, caused the roof to collapse, raising fears that people may have been trapped under the debris.

As per latest reports, two persons have died while three others have sustained critical injuries in the incident.

According to sources, the building was allegedly being used as an illegal firecracker godown, where firecrackers were stored and manufactured. 

The explosion was so intense that nearby shops and houses sustained damage, and villagers reportedly fled their homes in panic. The exact extent of casualties and loss is yet to be estimated.

Emergency teams, including police and fire department personnel, rushed to the scene and conducted rescue operations, working to ensure the safety of residents and retrieve anyone trapped under the rubble.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion. While the building was reportedly being used for illegal firecracker storage, officials have not ruled out negligence during handling as a potential factor.
