Scores of families living at Kamand village under Koida block in Sundargarh district have been at the receiving end of a power blackout for the last two years. They have been suffering in the absence of electricity and have to negotiate with darkness every day.
As per reports, the two-year-long blackout has resulted from three defunct transformers. Locals lamented that a transformer installed at Munda Sahi went kaput two years ago, but the distribution company has not set it right despite repeated pleas of consumers.
Similarly, another transformer set up at Gopal Sahi used to come in handy for the people, but it too became defunct a year ago. While it is yet to be repaired or replaced with a new one, the third one at Patra Sahi is also out of order.

As the drinking water supply in the village fully depends on electricity, the water supply has been disrupted, causing a lot of difficulties for the people.
The major problem is faced by students at night. They are unable to study properly sans electricity, rued villagers.
A woman said, “We had a smooth supply of water earlier. Amid the power disruption, everything has gone haywire. We have no water, no light. Three transformers have broken down.”
Meanwhile, Bonai SDO (electricity) Anukul Chandra Mohanty said that the transformers will be replaced in seven days.
