Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Thursday targeted former Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik as several Odisha-bound potato-laden trucks have reportedly been stranded on West Bengal border and those vehicles are not allowed to cross the border.

Minister Patra termed Patnaik responsible for this kind of act by the neighbouring state of West Bengal.

As per sources, the West Bengal government has taken the decision to stop the export of potatoes to other states to control the gradual price rise of essential kitchen items in their state.

The West Bengal government has reportedly taken the step following an important meeting held at Nabanna under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The CM has directed the administration to take strong action to control the rise in prices of potatoes and onions in West Bengal.

“I don’t know why West Bengal is repeatedly doing these kinds of things. The sister (Mamata) might have taken this kind of step as the brother (Naveen) might have told her or written a letter to her. I don’t know about the relationship between the brother and the sister. We will enquire on why the neighbouring state has stopped exporting potatoes to Odisha,” said Minister Patra.

“However, we assure that the consumers will face no problems. We are now prepared to procure potatoes from other states and steps will be taken in this direction immediately,” he added.
