Politics has been intensified in Odisha over the central deputation of two senior IPS officers- Ravi Kant and Mitrabhanu Mohapatra. Senior Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati has targeted the ruling BJP over the development.

'The govt lost its face'

Bahinipati has expressed concern over the central government's decision to give a 'clean chit' to the two officers, previously labelled corrupt by the Odisha government.

"They (BJP) don't have proof that Mitrabhanu Mohapatra indulged in corruption. This is the reason why they sent him in deputation following an understanding with Amit Shah. It's good that he got the deputation. The government lost its face due to the development," said Bahinipati.

'Don't have moral courage'

In response, Odisha BJP President Manmohan Samal countered the accusation by advising that the critics should reflect on their own conduct first.

According to Samal, the critics should see their own conduct first. The senior saffron leader further said that as they (critics) are not clean, and they don't have the moral courage, and they can't ask questions about 'cleanliness'.

"They should look at their own conduct rather than giving comments on us.  They will only remind of their own conduct by commenting like this. Let them tell whatever they want. No remark should be given on their comments," said Samal.

"Who are they to ask questions. It's like a drunkard preaching restraint. They don't have the moral courage to ask this question. As they are not clean, they don't have the right to speak about 'cleanliness," he added.

Notably, the two senior IPS officers from the Odisha cadre have been deputed to key leadership roles in the Border Security Force (BSF), the country’s primary border guarding organisation under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Both postings are on a deputation basis for a period of five years, or until further notice, whichever comes earlier.
