Odisha politics has now got heated up post Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit and subsequent speculation over BJD-BJP bonhomie. Apart from this, there is also speculation over early polls.
Bhubaneswar MP, Aparajita Sarangi on Monday said that whenever elections will be held in Odisha, the BJP is ready. She refuted any coalition with the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
“There is no question of alliance with BJD. Our leaders including Union Ministers Bhupinder Yadav and Arjun Munda have already cleared views before media. Till Centre doesn’t approve the proposal of Odisha government, how can election happen?,” said Sarangi.
Sarangi further said that whether any proposal has been sent or not, it could only be speculation. Moreover, if BJD has got 5 years’ time from people, they need to serve people for 5 years.
“We want to see the report card of the BJD government. BJD has got the mandate for 5 years and they should work for 5 years. After 5 years when the general elections will be held, they should bring out their report card,” Sarangi added.
Responding to this, BJD MLA, Parshuram Dhada said, “I don’t know when Odisha government has said for early polls. Only MP Aparajita Sarangi can say from where she has got this information. Even if polls are held early, this is nothing new. It seems that Sarangi madam doesn’t have any idea about this.”
Congress MLA, Sura Routray, on the other hand, said early polls is just a gimmick.
“As per law, any government or CM can recommend early votes. But I am not ready to accept that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Naveen Patnaik are eager for early polls,” said Routray.
