A police assistant sub-inspector was allegedly thrashed by locals at Chudakuti Bazaar in Dhamnagar in Bhadrak for reportedly arresting an ‘innocent’ person on Wednesday.

As per the allegation, a police ASI and a cop had gone to arrest an accused. However, they picked up an innocent man instead.

“I was having a conversation with someone when the police came from nowhere and forced me to go with them. They even thrashed me. I don’t know who the police officer is. They came in a civilian dress and were in inebriated condition,” said Bijay Gahana, a local, who was picked up by the police.

On being informed about the incident, Dhamnagar Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) rushed to the spot and rescued the duo. They were immediately rushed to Dhamnagar hospital.
