Police ASI suspended for ‘attacking’ ward member

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police posted at Jankia Police Station in Khordha district was suspended on Monday for allegedly attacking a ward member in the police station.

The accused ASI, Niranjan Mohanty was suspended by the district SP Sidhharth Kataria after a written complaint by the ward member.

As per reports, Naba Kishore Harichandan, a ward member of Jankia Panchayat had gone to the police station to enquire about an old case. As the Inspector In-Charge (IIC) was absent, Harichandan stood at the door and was speaking on the phone when Mohanty allegedly hit Harichandan with a stone.

The act fanned tension on the police station premise as scores of Harichandan’s supporters reached the spot. The IIC arrived and pacified both Harichandan and Mohanty.

Harichandan then filed a complaint against Mohanty at the same police station following which the police official was suspended.

No comments could be obtained from the police in this connection.
