The Odisha Assembly on Friday witnessed repeated adjournments by Speaker Surama Padhy amid ruckus over Polavaram issue.
As per reports, members of Congress created pandemonium by vocally expressing their dissent with slogans after coming to the well of the house as soon as the question hour began. The uproar ensued after the Speaker rejected their adjournment motion relating to the Polavaram project, leading to the protests.
This disruption gained momentum as the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) members appealed for calm, hoping to restore order within the Assembly.
Meanwhile, Opposition BJD and Congress rapped ruling BJP over Polavaram issue. “BJD has always been fighting for the interest of the people of Odisha. We will continue to do so,” said Leader of the Opposition, Naveen Patnaik.

“The Centre is supporting Polavaram project and providing huge amount of funds for it. Some parts of Odisha will be inundated due to the project and as a result, the people in the area will suffer. However, Odisha government has remained as a mute spectator,” said Congress leader, Rama Chandra Kadam.
In response, BJP said that the Opposition parties are trying to mislead the people of Odisha over the issue.
“The way the Opposition parties are misleading the people of Odisha has stunned one and all. We are also concerned about the Polavaram project. Land in Odisha will not be provided to the project illegally,” said BJP leader, Ashok Mohanty.
