Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to Berhampur on September 27 may undergo changes in view of a heavy rainfall forecast, with Jharsuguda emerging as a possible alternative venue.
The Prime Minister was scheduled to participate in a major government programme in Berhampur, including the distribution of 50,000 homes under the Awas Yojana. Preparations had already been made at the Rangeilunda airstrip, where tents and other arrangements were set up. However, with the possibility of inclement weather, these structures have now been dismantled.
So far, there has been no official confirmation from the government on whether the event will be shifted or rescheduled.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had earlier chaired a review meeting regarding the Prime Minister’s visit, while the DGP also inspected security and logistical arrangements. Officials say the final decision will depend on the evolving weather conditions.
Rainfall Predictions
According to the Meteorological Office, Berhampur is likely to experience heavy rainfall on the scheduled date. In contrast, Jharsuguda is expected to have comparatively lighter rainfall, which is why it is being considered as an alternative venue. If weather predictions become clearer and the entire programme may face cancellation in case of a cyclone.
Officials continue to monitor the situation closely, balancing preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit with the challenges posed by weather conditions.
