Plus 2 girl student immolates self by pouring petrol in Odisha’s Ganjam

In a shocking incident, a Plus 2 first year student at Bhetanai village under Ganjam’s Aska block died of severe burn injuries after she reportedly set her ablaze by pouring petrol on Monday.

Her charred body was found lying in her home at Bhetanai, following which the neighbours called the police. She was a student of Ahalya Devi Junior Women's College at Ballipadar.

The police sent the body to Berhampur Hospital for post-mortem.

The incident happened when she was reportedly alone in her house. Sources said, her father is in Surat working as a migrant labourer and her mother works in the field. She has a brother too who was out with friends at the time of the incident.

A neighbour said, “I saw her charred body in her house after I returned from the field. They are two children. She has a brother. Her father is a migrant labourer working in Surat and her mother has gone to her village.

While it is unclear why she did this, the police are on the spot and have launched a probe into the matter.
