Putting their lives at risk, students are forced to attend their classes by sitting on the verandah as plaster fell off from the ceiling of a newly constructed school building in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district.
As per reports, the students of Jhatiali Government Primary School in Kerkera village under Karanjia block in the district have to sit on verandah due to the poor condition of their school building.
There are as many as 100 students in the school. However, they have to face many difficulties due to the poor condition of their school infrastructure, alleged locals. Though a new building has been constructed for the school, plasters from the ceiling are falling off due to alleged poor construction work.
Villagers and school teachers have informed about the same to the higher authorities several times. However, their pleas have 'fallen on deaf ears so far'.
“As the plaster of the roof is falling off, children and the teachers are scared to sit inside the classrooms. We are forced to run the classes on the verandah of the school building. Even the school compound has also collapsed. The students and the teachers are facing a lot of difficulties. Their lives are at risk,” rued a villager.
“The school building was recently built. However, the plaster of the roof fell off on Saturday afternoon. Luckily, we had morning classes on that day and students were not in the classroom. Had it been another working day, the lives of the students would have been under huge threat. We are forced to take the classes on the school verandah,” said a teacher at the school.
No reaction from the district administration could be obtained in this regard.
