A pickup van carrying over 30 members of a bride’s family overturned near Guluba under Adaba police station limits in Gajapati district, leaving more than 29 passengers injured on Thursday. The accident occurred when the vehicle lost balance and overturned while taking a turn on the road during their return journey from a marriage function in Birikote.

Among the injured, nine were reported to be in critical condition and have been shifted to Berhampur Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.
According to reports, the vehicle was ferrying over 30 relatives from the bride's side, hailing from Hataganda village. While they were on their way back home after attending the wedding, the van lost control and overturned near Guluba. The impact left many passengers injured.

Local residents rushed to the spot and rescued the injured passengers. All were admitted to the nearby Birikote Medical Centre for treatment after the rescue operation. According to initial reports gathered from sources, it has been found that all the injured individuals belong to Hataganda village.

Dr. Prasant Sahu of Birikote PHC said, “A total of 29 people have been injured. Out of the injured patients here, 16 are female patients and 13 are male. However, eight to nine patients are in critical condition. Two patients have already been referred to a different hospital. Ambulance services have been called for their transfer.”

The incident has caused concern among local residents and relatives of the injured, while authorities have begun a preliminary investigation into the cause of the mishap
