In a significant development for Odisha's healthcare education, the eagerly awaited medical colleges in Talcher and Phulbani will welcome their first cohort of students in the upcoming academic session. This was announced by the state's Health Minister, Mukesh Mahaling, amid efforts to enhance medical education infrastructure in the region.

During his recent visit to Kandhamal district, Minister Mahaling conducted a thorough inspection of the construction site for the medical college and hospital located in Tilkapada, Phulbani. He instructed the teams involved to speed up the completion of building work to ensure readiness for the upcoming student intake.

The construction work is reportedly in its final phase. The Minister emphasised the urgency of finishing the project without delays, encouraging both the department and contractors to intensify their efforts to meet the deadline.

“We are committed to completing the building at the earliest, providing much-needed medical education facilities to the region,” said Mahaling.

“Our main focus is on improving quality and affordable healthcare for everyone. We are planning to start classes in both Phulbani and Talcher medical colleges. We have already appointed enough faculties and specialists for all the departments. From now on, no patients will be transferred or referred to Berhampur MKCG Medical College and Hospital. All healthcare will be made available in Phulbani itself,” the Health Minister told mediapersons.

Minister Mahaling's visit underscores Odisha’s commitment to improving healthcare services and accessibility through enhanced educational facilities. The opening of these colleges is expected to significantly contribute to meeting the rising demand for medical professionals in Odisha and neighbouring regions.

The inauguration of these medical colleges is a significant advancement for local healthcare infrastructure, promising to boost medical education and practitioner availability in Odisha. The development aligns with the government’s broader plans to enhance the state’s healthcare system, addressing both educational and clinical needs across the region.

Local residents and prospective students have welcomed the news, optimistic about the opportunities the colleges will bring to the region.
