A patient became critical after blood of the wrong group was allegedly administered to him at a private hospital in Cuttack. The patient, identified as Bibhuti Bhusan Jena of Jhola Sahi area, is now undergoing treatment at the ICU.
As per initial reports, Jena was admitted to the private hospital after a fall in his haemoglobin count. As per the doctor’s advice, his family members went to Central Red Cross Blood Bank and brought ‘A’ positive blood unit. However, Jena’s condition started to deteriorate within minutes of the blood transfusion.
Later, upon investigation of the blood at a private lab, it was found that the blood unit brought from the blood bank was ‘B’ positive instead of ‘A’ positive as per the patient’s requirement.
The Director of the Central Red Cross Blood Bank said that only after getting a report from the doctor treating the patient, the matter will be investigated.
