The Biju Patnaik State Police Academy in Bhubaneswar observed its convocation ceremony on Thursday. The ceremony marked the passing out of five Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and 153 Sub-Inspectors (SI).
Speaking about their training, a woman DSP officer said, “We had our training in two parts. Basic training was imparted to us in the institution for one year in which we read the law. Then we moved to the SOG (Special Operations Group) to train in anti-extremism. It made us confident to take on the LWEs.”
“We are efficient in tackling cyber crimes also. We have been provided a good training on that,” she said.
Odisha Police DG Sunil Bansal, who handed over the cadets their certificates, said, “This is an important day for Odisha Police. Police officers normally have to undergo a long training period. I am happy that these officers have passed out today. They will have their field postings soon.”
“They have been provided rigorous training in law, physical fitness, ethics, human rights and gender sensitisation. They will be sent for field attachment to know how the police administration works in police stations and outposts. I hope all the cadets who passed out today will make their family, their State, their Country and the police department proud by fulfilling our expectations from them,” Bansal said.
Speaking about the year 2023, Bansal said, “The department worked very well in 2023. Our area domination in Naxal-hit areas was good. Some of our anti-naxal operations went very well where our officers neutralised three Maoists by displaying their valour and gallantry. Even our recruitment this year broke all the records of previous years. We have inducted nearly 4600 new Constables in our department. They are all in training now and will join the police force in 15-20 days.”
