Reacting to collection of parking fees in shopping malls in Bhubaneswar, Odisha Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra on Thursday stated that action will be taken if complaints are received.
The Minister stated that no formal complaints have been filed so far. If any allegation is proven to be true, an inquiry will be conducted and necessary action will follow.
Meanwhile, BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana said that a decision will be taken after reviewing whether the collection of parking fees in malls is legally permissible. He added that they are not currently aware of any specific rules on this matter. Different courts in various states have given different rulings regarding parking fees, he noted.
The Commissioner further emphasized that preventing misuse at parking spaces is a priority. A comprehensive review will be carried out, and the final decision on parking arrangements in the capital will be made in a manner that best serves public interest.

"We have not received any formal complaints so far. After receiving complaints, we will conduct inquiries. If there is any truth in it, actions will be taken accordingly," said Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra.
"We can't say whether it is completely legal or illegal. Different courts have given different judgements. It is considered as free. When something is free, it is left to massive misuse also. We have received complaints that people leave by keeping their vehicles at the parking spot for months. It is a private place. The final decision on parking arrangements in the capital will be made in a manner that best serves public interest," said BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana.
