The search operation to trace three fishermen who went missing following a boat capsize in Paradip late Tuesday evening continued for the second day on Wednesday morning. A chopper of the Indian Coast Guard has been pressed into service.
The Paradip Port Tugboat and the local fishermen have also joined the rescue operation. The rescue operation by the Indian Coast Guard which was suspended late Tuesday evening resumed early Wednesday morning.
According to sources, at least eight fishermen were returning to the shore in the boat when it reportedly capsized due to strong sea currents. All of them fell into the sea and had gone missing.
Five of them were later rescued by the local fishermen, fire brigade personnel and Coast Guard. Three of them are still missing and the rescue operation is on.
Earlier, speaking to the media, Jagatsinghpur SP, Rahul PR said, “Eight fishermen were missing and later five of them were rescued. A joint operation was launched by the Coast Guard, Marine Police, the Port, and CISF. Due to the timely intervention of CISF and the Port, two fishermen were initially rescued. Later, three were rescued with the help of another fishing boat.”
“Marine Police is also collecting information if the fishermen have swum to some other place to provide immediate medical attention,” the SP added.
