Police on Saturday arrested a Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) on the charges of misbehaving with a woman inside a panchayat office in Odisha. The incident has been reported from Bolangir. The PEO arrested in connection with the incident was identified as Akshaya Kumar Mohanty.
Mohanty has been posted at Denga panchayat under Saintala block. He was initially detained after the victim's husband lodged a formal police complaint in connection with the incident. Later, police initiated a probe and arrested the PEO after examining CCTV footage and other aspects.
"We have also seen the video footage and the incident has been caught on camera. The accused should be punished as per the provisions of the law," said Sarpanch Itishree Sahu.
"A complaint was filed in which it was alleged that a woman was misbehaved by the PEO inside his chamber. Based on this, we have arrested the accused after registering a case," said Titilagarh SDPO Ankita Kumbhar.
