Why some job-aspirants moved Orissa HC?

Those applicants, who were previously considered 'over age', claimed they were unfairly excluded from consideration.

A prior directive from the High Court's Single Bench had ensured that these candidates would be provided an opportunity.

The examinations were conducted for these 'over age' candidates in compliance with High Court directions. However, the results of these exams are yet to be announced.

Initially, the recruitment for over 1,800 constable positions in IRB was set to commence on the 17th of this month. The High Court has now halted these proceedings, with a subsequent hearing scheduled for March 20, 2025.

Worth mentioning, recruitment was not done for the IRB constable posts for six years, before the notification. Hence, several job aspirants had not got the opportunity to apply for the posts due to the age factor.

They had sought intervention of the High Court in this matter and appealed to the court to issue necessary directives to the authorities concerned to allow them age-relaxation.

The Odisha IRB constable recruitment involves a competitive process where candidates must pass a computer-based exam, followed by physical tests, and a medical examination to join the Odisha Special Armed Police (OSAP) as a constable.
