Online trading goes wrong; businessman from Angul loses Rs 52.26L

A businessman from Angul has fallen victim to an online trading scam, losing a staggering amount of Rs 52.26 lakh. The victim has been identified as Rajesh Saralia from Gandhi Marg area of Angul town.

As per reports, Saralia has lodged a complaint in this connection at the Angul Cyber Police Station, following which police registered a case and initiated an investigation.

The businessman had reportedly received an international phone call last month, where fraudsters lured him into investing money through a trading app, promising high returns. Tempted by the prospects, Saralia deposited Rs 52.26 lakh in five phases across multiple bank accounts.

However, when he later attempted to withdraw his money, he realized that he had been duped. Subsequently, he approached the cyber police. 

Confirming the incident, the Angul SDPO stated that an investigation into the case is currently underway.

"The victim Rajesh Saralia from Gandhi Marg area of Angul lodged a complaint on August 29 that he got an international call in which he was lured to invest in a trading app. The victim has deposited Rs 52.26 lakh in five phases across multiple bank accounts. Subsequently, when he tried to retrieve the money, he realised that he has been duped. Then he reported the matter at the cyber police station. A case has been registered and investigation into the matter is currently underway," said Angul SDPO Ramakant Mahalik.
