One person died and over a dozen were injured during Diwali celebrations in Odisha, with incidents reported from Puri, Bhubaneswar, Rayagada, and Balasore. Properties worth lakhs were destroyed.

A youth was killed while over a dozen sustained injuries during Diwali celebrations in separate incidents across the state. Moreover, properties worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes in fire mishaps.

In the first incident reported from Puri, a youth critically injured while bursting firecrackers succumbed to his injuries. Three persons including a woman from Batagaon under Sadar police limits in Puri sustained grievous injuries following a freak firecracker mishap.

They were undergoing treatment at Puri DHH. However, the condition of one of the injured youths worsened following which he was shifted to Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital for better treatment. However, the youth breathed his last on the night of Diwali.

The other two injured were shifted to Bhubaneswar AIIMS where their condition remained critical.

Similarly, there were reports of injuries during firecracker bursting in the Capital city of Bhubaneswar too. Several people were admitted to Capital Hospital. 

According to initial reports, at least 15 people have been admitted to the Capital Hospital so far, and the number is only increasing.

In another incident, a stationary store was reduced to ashes after it caught fire during Diwali celebrations at Rayagada Jagannath Mandir Sahi. The shop owner used to sell petrol in bottles and it caught fire while bursting crackers.

Likewise, at least eight people sustained injuries while bursting crackers in Balasore district. Most of the injured are minor children who are now admitted to Balasore Hospital, sources said.

Meanwhile, more reports of firecracker mishaps during Diwali celebrations are coming from different locations across the state.
