One person died and another sustained critical injuries after an unidentified vehicle hit a motorcycle on the National Highway near CRP Square in Bhubaneswar late last night. The incident triggered tension in the area.
The identity of the deceased and the injured person is yet to be ascertained.
According to reports, the duo on a motorcycle was heading from Baramunda towards Vani Vihar when they were hit by an unknown vehicle, killing one on the spot.
An eyewitness recounted, “The bike rider was driving to the extreme left of the road when a truck hit the bike and left the spot. The truck ran over the driver’s head, which caused his death on the spot; while the pillion rider, who fell down from the bike, was critically injured.”
He further alleged a delay in emergency response and said, “We were at the spot for more than an hour and kept calling for police and ambulance, but no authority reached the spot immediately. The police reached only after two hours.”
Following the incident, passers-by and locals gathered at the scene. Angered by the absence of prompt assistance, they blocked the road for some time, leading to traffic disruption. The situation was brought under control after police arrived at the spot.
