A youth sustained critical injuries in an attack by a group of miscreants who chased and attacked him with sharp weapons in Bhubaneswar on Monday night.
The victim has been identified as Vicky Nayak. Initially, he was admitted to a local hospital. Later, he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition.
Though the exact reason behind the attack has not been ascertained yet, old enmity is suspected.
As per reports, Nayak, along with his two friends, were having dinner in a hotel near Sishu Bhawan traffic square in the Capital City when as many as eight unidentified miscreants came in a vehicle and launched the attack with sharp-edged weapons.
Nayak, who is a resident of Kedarpalli area, sustained severe injuries in his hands, legs and head. He is currently undergoing treatment at the SCB Cuttack in a critical condition and battling for life.
"The miscreants came in a car and attacked Vicky and two others with sharp-edged weapons when they were having dinner in a hotel. Vicky has sustained severe injuries in the attack. The attack was over some past enmity," said a local resident.

"The miscreants launched a deadly attack on my son; he has been critically injured in the process. The culprits should be immediately arrested, and stern actions should be taken against them," said Nayak's mother.
Kedarpalli area in Bhubaneswar has been regularly witnessing such criminal activities. Locals here even raise questions over the efficiency of police.
Police is yet to comment on the incident.
