The Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) has set an ambitious target of producing 50 million ton of minerals during the 2025–26 financial year, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi chaired a review meeting where strategies to boost mineral production were extensively discussed. The meeting also addressed key issues including the extension of mining leases, securing environmental clearances, and the operationalisation of new mines, as reported by PTI.
A significant portion of the discussions centred around increasing bauxite production. The statement noted that the current year’s bauxite production target stands at 3.6 million ton, which is expected to rise to 6 million ton in the coming year.
The Chief Minister highlighted the need for OMC to prioritise the improvement of livelihoods in mining-affected regions by creating employment opportunities and aligning with existing development schemes. He also underscored the importance of promoting forest resources and implementing various developmental initiatives to generate employment for local populations.
As per the statement, it was decided that OMC would formulate a dedicated action plan to achieve these objectives.
