A youth from Khariar police limits in Nuapada district has been accused of exploiting a young woman under the false promise of marriage.

As per initial allegations, the accused developed a physical relationship with the woman and forced her to undergo an abortion. The accused has been absconding since then. Following this, the family of the girl filed a case against the accused youth at the Khariar Police Station.

The victim said, “He promised to marry me and then established a relationship with me. But when I became pregnant, he threatened me and forced me to terminate the pregnancy. His family had initially assured me they would allow the marriage since we belong to the same caste, but later they denied it.”

Family Disheartened Over Delayed Response

The victim’s family initially filed an FIR at Khariar police station, but claimed that no action was taken. Seeking justice, they approached the Superintendent of Police (SP), who reportedly promised action within three days.

Expressing his anguish, the victim’s brother said, “He deceived my sister by pretending he would marry her. After making her pregnant, he disappeared. When we went to the Khariar police, they didn’t respond. Even after we approached the SP and were assured of quick action, nothing has happened.”

Villagers Voice Anger, Demand Justice

The incident has sparked outrage in the local community. A villager said, “The police are not making any effort to trace the accused. They should either arrest him or ensure he marries the girl.”

SP Assures Action

Responding to the growing criticism, Nuapada SP said, “A case has been registered against the accused. We are investigating the matter and making efforts to locate him, and soon he will be arrested.”
