In a striking display of frustration, residents of Srikrishnapur village under Remuna block in Balasore district staged an unusual protest on Tuesday by planting paddy saplings on a muddy road that has allegedly remained neglected for years.

According to villagers, the road has been in a dilapidated condition for a long time, making daily travel extremely difficult. The situation worsens during the monsoon, when the road turns into a swampy stretch filled with slush and mud, disrupting movement of people, vehicles, and even schoolchildren.

Despite repeated appeals to the authorities for construction of a proper road, no action has allegedly been taken so far. Disheartened by the continued 'neglect', the villagers resorted to this symbolic protest, planting paddy on the road to highlight its poor condition and draw the attention of the administration.

Local residents said that the road is the only lifeline for the village, connecting them to nearby markets, schools, and health facilities. They warned that if immediate steps are not taken, they would intensify their agitation.

“We have been demanding the construction of the road. But it has yielded no results. We are just getting false assurances. The road condition is so worse that ambulance cannot reach the village. Many people suffer injuries,” said a villager.
