While so much development has taken place in modern healthcare, information and technology, villagers under the Rajnagar block of Kendrapara district resorted to Goddess worship to curb the outbreak of diarrhoea in their area.
As per reports, at least three persons have lost their lives after suffering from diarrhoea in the Rajnagar area of the district on Wednesday. Two migrant workers in the area also passed away due to the same reason some days back.
Moreover, in the most tragic incident, at least 10 children from Charipokharia village died while undergoing treatment at the Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital a couple of days back. More than 70 villagers are currently undergoing treatment in different hospitals after suffering from the waterborne disease.
The villagers are in a state of panic following the development. They are reportedly performing ‘Chandi Patha’ and ‘Havan’ to appease the Goddess of the village to curb the spread of the disease.
Meanwhile, a medical team has reached the spot to take stock of the situation. They have collected samples of drinking water from different places in the village and sent those samples to the laboratory for testing.
It has been reportedly learnt by the medical team that diarrhoea is spreading its tentacles in the area due to contaminated drinking water used by villagers from different sources.
