We live in a world of eaten and being eaten where people have become so selfish that they don’t do anything without benefit. However, there's a tiny bit of humanity still existing on this planet otherwise the human race wouldn’t have survived. Even today, there are people in the world who help others without any selfish interest. And Balasore youths have proved it. Youths of Chakapada village under Khaira block in Balasore district have resorted to begging to raise funds for treatment of an accident victim.
As the accident victim belongs to a poor family, the village youths have extended a helping hand to him who is presently undergoing treatment at a Bhubaneswar-based private hospital.
They are seen collecting rice and money from each house for the cause.
Santosh Kumar Barik, a daily wage earner of the village, met with a road mishap when he was returning home on December 25. An unknown vehicle hit him from the rear and fled the scene. Locals rescued him and admitted him to Khaira hospital. Later, he was shifted to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital which referred him to SCB Medical College and Hospital. As SCB doctors reportedly failed to provide requisite service to Santosh, he was again shifted to a private hospital in the state capital, sources said.
Santosh, who has lost an eye in the mishap, is currently battling for life and his family members are not in a position to arrange fund for him. In such a situation, fellow village youths have come forward to give a new lease of life to him.
Pramila Barik, the victim’s relative, said, “He is undergoing treatment in a hospital in Bhubaneswar. Doctors have made it clear that a big amount of money is required for the treatment as his condition is critical. His family’s financial condition is very poor to bear his medical expenses. If everyone chips in, Santosh will be back to home after complete recovery.”
Kanhu Charan Barik, another relative of Santosh, said, “His father is ailing. His mother is a differently-abled person. Keeping his financial condition in mind, village youths are doing a great job. They are collecting rice and money from each household. They are selling rice in market and sending the money to Santosh’s wife who is in Bhubaneswar to look after her ailing husband.
“We must appreciate the local youths who came forward to bear Santosh’s treatment cost. Besides, we would like to urge the district administration and the state government to provide financial aid for Santosh’s quick recovery,” said a villager, Rajesh Kumar Mahakud.
