After the devastating train accident at Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore district on Friday evening, survivors who were on board of the ill-fated Coromandel Express have recalled the nightmarish accident.
A family from Patna with Parents Atala Bihari, his wife Savitri, their two daughters and one son had a miraculous shave from the accident. The family was going to Chennai for the brain tumor surgery of their 11-year-old daughter and the horrific accident happened at Bahanaga station.
Recollecting their horrific experience, Atala Bihari said, “We were in H2 coach. We heard a deafening sound and were soon jolted out of our berths before we could understand what had actually happened. Our bogey was jam-packed. I don’t think people sitting near the door of our bogey would have survived.”
“After watching the magnitude of the accident very closely, our children were in a state of shock. After having a close shave from the accident, we decided to stay in a nearby hotel. After staying there for two days, our children have got rid of the fear a little bit. Now, we are preparing to start our journey to Chennai again for the treatment of my elder daughter,” he added.
Sharing her horrible experience about the accident, Savitri said, “It’s very hard to forget the devastating memory of the accident. We heard the deafening sound suddenly as the train turned turtle. Our bogey was full of dust and smoke and there was darkness all around as the light went away suddenly. When we became a little bit conscious, we desperately searched for our children.”
“I screamed to get back my children and thank God my husband had saved my children after they fell down from their respective berths. I was worried for my elder daughter as she has been undergoing treatment for a brain tumor. With God’s grace, nothing had happened to her and my whole family was safe. I got a huge shy of relief after all our family members were united following a close shave from the horrific accident,” she added.
