Odisha is set to face a fresh spell of intense discomfort due to hot and humid conditions, with coastal districts likely to experience severe sultriness over the next three days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for the region, warning of unbearable humidity combined with high temperatures till June 10, 2025.
The oppressive conditions are being caused by a combination of dry heat and rising moisture levels, which are expected to increase further in the coming days.
While coastal districts brace for sticky, stifling weather, parts of western and interior Odisha may receive light rainfall, providing some temporary relief.
Despite these scattered showers, temperatures in many western districts are expected to remain above 40 degrees Celsius.
Districts such as Deogarh, Sundargarh, Subarnapur, Nayagarh, Boudh, and Bargarh are likely to experience heatwave-like conditions.
Areas including Bhawanipatna, Jharsuguda, Bolangir, Titilagarh, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Baripada have also been flagged for extreme heat.
Adding to the discomfort, winds with speeds reaching up to 40 kmph may prevail during thunderstorms in some areas. However, no major drop in temperature is expected in the next week.
