The workers of the Survey and Map Publication office in Cuttack on Tuesday staged an indefinite sit-in in front of the office. Their demands included the release of pensions of retired employees among others.
The agitating employees alleged that their jobs are under threat due to the lackadaisical attitude of the senior officers.
They said they resorted to indefinite strike because their meeting with the Chief Minister, departmental minister, chief secretary and director and taking up the matter with them yielded no fruit.
They alleged that the pensions of retired employees have been withheld.
“It has been one and a half years since the corrupted officer joined the office. As machines are not functioning properly, the workers are sitting idle most of the time. Instead of taking steps to streamline the process, he is misappropriating money by floating tenders. I retired in May but my provisional pension has been held up only because I blew the whistle on the illegalities going on,” said Pratap Chandra Barik, an agitating employee.
No comments were received from the concerned authorities.
