Emotions ran high at Bhubaneswar airport after a lot of students studying in Dehradun and other parts landed in Odisha on Saturday following the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan post the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Over 15 students from Odisha studying in various prestigious schools of Dehradun have returned home. Post the terrorist attack, India launched a counter strike and destroyed terrorist camps in Operation Sindoor.

The students, enrolled in institutions like Doon International School, Welham School, and Mussoorie International School, were brought back by their anxious parents in Odisha despite the fact that the situation in Dehradun had not worsened significantly.

According to sources, although there was no immediate danger in the region, the parents were gripped by fear due to escalating tensions and uncertainty. As a precautionary measure, they did not delay and arranged for the safe return of their children to Odisha. The students arrived at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

“I am happy to be back in Odisha. I will now spend time with my family,”said a student.

A guardian said, “I am happy that my daughter has returned safely. Though school had not asked to vacate the campus, still we called back our child back in view of the escalating tension between India and Pakistan. As Dehradun is a military base area, we decided to call back our child.”

Subhankar Mishra, another student said, “We were told that if we want to go back home, we were allowed to. Our school had sent a mail to our parents and subsequently we returned to Odisha. We were completely safe there.”

Subhankar’s mother said, “It is a relaxed moment for the family as my son is with us now. Though nothing has happened there, were a bit anxious about what emergency situation could arise due to the present war-like situation. Exams have been postponed and hence, we decided to call my son back.”

Shaurya Agarwal, a student said, “Nothing happened in Uttarakhand, but we decided to come back as the school wanted us to stay safe. We have military camps all around and we were completely safe there.”

Parents expressed that even a remote threat to their children's safety was unacceptable, prompting them to act swiftly. The incident underscores the growing anxiety among civilians regarding national security and the lengths to which parents will go to ensure the safety of their children.
