The Odisha government has raised the monthly remuneration of junior teachers under the Samagra Sikshya Scheme from Rs 11,000 to Rs 16,000. The revised pay is effective immediately, benefitting 13,740 teachers across primary and upper primary schools.

The Odisha government released a notification announcing an enhancement of the monthly remuneration of junior teachers (schematic) from the current Rs 11,000 to Rs 16,000 across all primary and upper primary schools of the state under the Samagra Sikshya Scheme.

A letter issued by the School and Mass Education Department on 12th February carried the order. It also detailed that the revised date of remuneration will be effective immediately from the date of issue of this resolution.

“Government after careful consideration has been pleased to enhance the monthly remuneration of the Junior Teachers(Schematic) engaged in Primary and Upper Primary Schools of the State under Samagra Sikshya Scheme from Rs. 11,100 to Rs.16,000,” read the order.

The pay hike will affect at least 13,740 teachers engaged in the role across the state. It is worth noting that the state government had initially announced this increment on January 17 and it has come into effect immediately.

While the state exchequer will incur an additional expenditure of Rs 89.15 crore from the state’s budget, the movie will significantly help in the socio-economic development and welfare of teachers.

Notably, in addition to the salary hike, the state's contribution to the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) for teachers has also increased and it will now contribute Rs 1,950 to each teacher's EPF account, up from the previous Rs 1,443.

Incidentally, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi distributed appointment letters to 16,009 junior teachers (Schematic) in various primary and upper primary schools across the state on October 5, 2024.
