Odisha has so far recorded 786 heatstroke cases from various parts while sunstroke has claimed three lives this summer. These numbers were officially confirmed on Wednesday.
Such cases have become a cause of concern for the people and the Health Department.
As per reports, there are allegations that 20 people have died of sunstroke in the state.
However, the Health Department has confirmed three deaths due to sunstroke. The fatalities were reported from Dhenkanal, Balasore and Mayurbhanj while investigations on 17 alleged cases are underway.
Odisha Health Director, Bijay Mohapatra said, “For the last three days, temperatures in the state have come down by 2 to 3 Degrees Celsius.”
He added that there are 786 registered cases of heatstroke in various districts.
“After investigation, three sunstroke deaths have been confirmed. As mercury is coming down, such a situation is not prevalent now. As investigations into 17 other sunstroke deaths are underway, more death cases may come up,” he said.
On the other hand, IMD Bhubaneswar Director, Manorama Mohanty on Wednesday informed that except Bolangir and Nuapada, no other districts recorded temperatures of more than 40 Degrees Celsius.
There is no forecast of further rise in the mercury in the next 4 to 5 days, she said.
