Odisha records 17 student deaths in engineering and polytechnic colleges in last 3 Years: Minister
A total of 17 student deaths have been reported from engineering, polytechnic, and vocational colleges across Odisha in the last three years, informed Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Sampad Swain in the State Legislative Assembly on Friday.
Responding to a question in the Assembly, Swain said Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, recorded five deaths in the last three years which is the highest in the State.
Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Rourkela recorded four deaths. Additionally, two students lost their lives at an engineering college in Keonjhar, and one death each was reported from IGIT, Dhenkanal, and various polytechnic colleges, which together accounted for five deaths, the Minister informed.
The causes behind these fatalities were not immediately disclosed, raising concerns about student safety in these institutions. The government is expected to review the circumstances leading to these incidents and take necessary preventive measures.
