Normal life in different parts of Odisha has been adversely hit following heavy rainfall under the influence of depression in the past two days. At least two persons, including a minor boy, were killed in separate wall collapse incidents in Nabarangpur and Angul district.
In Nabarangpur, a four-year-old boy lost his life after the wall of his house collapsed at Bhatipada under Chandahandi block. The boy was reportedly playing with his father inside the house when the mishap occurred.
Following the incident, the injured boy was rushed to the Community Health Centre and later shifted to Nabarangpur where he was declared dead by the doctors.
In another incident, an elderly person died in a wall collapse incident reported from Sanakerajunga village in Angul district. The deceased has been identified as Parabha Gochhayat.
Gochhayat was sleeping in the house with his two granddaughters when the wall of their house collapsed. Gochhayat succumbed to his injuries while his 3 and 5-year-old granddaughters are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the situation is gradually improving in Malkangiri which received the highest rainfall under the influence of the depression over Odisha coast.
Though water is receding from several parts of the district, road communication is yet to be restored fully. There are also reports of some portions of bridges getting affected by the impact of the rainwater.
