Odisha police officers receive President's Award on Independence Day 

Special Secretary to the Home Department, Santosh Bala, and Excise Commissioner, Narasingha Bhol, were awarded the President’s Medal for distinguished service on Independence Day. Home guard Banabasi Maharana was posthumously honoured for his bravery against ganja smugglers. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi and other dignitaries attended the event.

Special Secretary to the Home Department, Santosh Bala and Excise Commissioner, Narasingha Bhol received the prestigious President’s Medal for distinguished service on Thursday. 

On the occasion of Independence Day, Special Secretary to the Home Department, Bala and Excise Commissioner, Bhol were felicitated with the prestigious President’s medal. Home guard Banabasi Maharana was posthumously awarded for his bravery. He was hacked to death by some ganja smugglers, His wife received the award. 

The police officers were felicitated for their distinguished service, meritorious service and bravery.

On this occasion, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, DGP Arun Sarangi and other officers were present.

“I would like to dedicate this to my father and my family for whom I am here. This will inspire me to work hard,” said Bala.

Bhol Said, “This will inspire me to discharge my duty in a more disciplined manner in the coming days.”

"My husband was killed by ganja smugglers. I feel proud to receive the certificate on his behalf," said Anita, wife of home guard, Banabasi Maharana.
