In a major development, the Orissa High Court has on Tuesday ordered age relaxation in the recruitment to Odisha Police driver posts.

The decision from the court came in response to a petition citing delays in regular recruitment processes.

According to sources, after 2021, the recruitment notification for police driver posts was issued after a big gap on 7 October 2024.

A total of 405 posts were announced in the notification. Initially, the maximum age limit was set at 23 years as of 1 January 2024,
resulting in the exclusion of many aspirants due to the gap in recruitment.

This move is expected to provide relief to eligible candidates who were previously disqualified due to age restrictions.

Madan Mohan Das, advocate of the petitioner said, “The single-judge bench of Justice SK Panigrahi allowed the writ petition extending the age limit for the recruitment. But, by how many years it will be increased can be known once the full judgement comes.”

It is worthwhile to mention here that the Selection Board Odisha Police has released a notification inviting applications from eligible candidates for the recruitment forthe  Post of Drivers in Police Motor Transport in Odisha Police.
