In a bid to boost state revenue and accelerate industrial growth, the Odisha government is set to auction 22 more mines in the coming days. The announcement was made on Tuesday by State Mines Minister Bibhuti Jena.

Speaking to reporters, Jena stated that the preparations for the auction are in the final stages. He also criticised the previous government for delaying the auction process, noting that several mines remained unutilized for years.

In just a few months of the new government taking charge, 8 mines have already been auctioned. Now, we are ready to put another 22 mines under the hammer, the Minister said.

He emphasised that the auctioning of these mineral-rich blocks will not only enhance Odisha's revenue but will also attract new industries. With industrial investment, employment opportunities will rise and economic activities will get a major boost, Jena added.

The Mining Department, according to him, is working on a priority to ensure timely and transparent auctions. The initiative is expected to open new avenues for both state income and job creation, especially in mineral-rich regions. Further details regarding the auction schedule are awaited.

“Many mines were not auctioned for the last 2-3 years. Our government auctioned eight mines last year. 22 more will be auctioned soon. The more mines are auctioned, the more revenue will be generated, and employment opportunities will be created,” said Jena.
