Tension prevailed in Banapur Community Health Centre (CHC) in Khordha on Saturday after the attendants of a patient, who allegedly died due to the administration of a wrong injection, created ruckus.
Alleging medical negligence, the family members of the deceased patient staged a sit-in at the hospital, demanding justice.
According to a source, there was a blister on the hand of Pandab Nayak, who visited the CHC for treatment. The doctor on duty administered an injection, said to be an antibiotic, to Nayak.
Immediately after the administration, Nayak’s family members noticed that his health condition was deteriorating. And in no time, he breathed his last.
“We husband and wife came to the hospital. He had a cut wound on his hand. The doctor prescribed some medicine. Then we went to the nurses. One of them administered an injection as prescribed by the doctor. Immediately after the administration of the injection, he complained of uneasiness and subsequently died,” alleged Manju Nayak, the wife of the deceased.
On the other hand, Dr Ramakanta Nayak, the CHC superintendent admitted that the injection was given without a proper health checkup of the patient.
“When a foreign body is injected into the body, an adverse reaction is inevitable if the body’s immunity system can’t tolerate it. Before administration of an injection, a skin test should be done. In this case, no skin test was carried out,” said Nayak.
