Serious allegations have surfaced against a doctor at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, claiming his involvement in the unauthorised referral of a patient from the casualty department to a private hospital, allegedly for personal gain.
According to reports, a patient named Balram Gouda from Baghalati in Golanthara died due to alleged medical negligence at a private hospital in Berhampur.
The family members of the deceased have raised serious concerns, alleging that he was first brought to the MKCG hospital, but was soon referred to a private hospital under suspicious circumstances.
The referral was allegedly made by Dr. Dillip Pradhan, an Assistant Professor in the Orthopaedics Department at MKCG, through his junior, a postgraduate medical student. The family claims that they were advised to shift the patient to the private hospital by the junior doctor on instructions from Dr. Pradhan.
Acting on the complaint, MKCG Superintendent Professor Durga Madhab Satapathy has ordered an internal inquiry into the matter. A Committee has already begun the investigation and is expected to submit its report within 24 hours.
“I have formed an internal committee to investigate the allegations. Senior persons, including our Registrar, are the members. They are most likely to submit the report by 4 pm tomorrow. Necessary actions will be taken accordingly. Loss of a young life is not acceptable,” said Satapathy.
So far, Dr. Dillip Pradhan has not issued any statement or clarification regarding the allegations.
“Medical authorities have not informed us about the committee. We came to know about it from social media. We met the superintendent and urged him to conduct an unbiased probe. We seek justice,” said Himashu Sekhar Sahoo, a social activist.
