The Minister of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare, Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak on Friday had to return midway after some unidentified miscreants ransacked a plaque of a project scheduled for inauguration in Kendrapara district.

As per reports, Nayak was scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for some projects in the area today. However, he had to skip the event after the plaque of a bridge was reportedly ransacked by miscreants in Nipania area.

The plaque of a road project was also ransacked in the area. Following this, the minister decided to skip visiting the area. Earlier, some local villagers had been demanding proper drinking water facilities and road connectivity to the Batighar area.

As no step was taken to redress their grievances, they had announced to oppose the inauguration. Observers believe that the incident could also be the fallout of infighting within the BJD.

Meanwhile, the district administration officials and the Minister could not be contacted over the matter.
