The repatriation of yet another deceased migrant worker's body from Andhra Pradesh prompted a protest in Odisha's Bolangir district on Saturday.

As per reports, Lal Patra, who was a resident of Jamapali village under Puintala block in the district, had travelled to Andhra Pradesh seeking employment.

Following his death, his body was sent back to Odisha. However, the local Labour Department has faced criticism for its perceived inaction, as no officials allegedly responded despite being informed.

Family's Outcry

In frustration, the deceased's relatives reportedly staged a protest by leaving his body in an Andhra Pradesh ambulance outside Puintala police station for several hours. This act of defiance underscores the family's frustration with the authorities' inaction.

Rising Concerns

The incident has placed the District Labour Department's capabilities under scrutiny, particularly given that over 40 migrant worker bodies have reportedly been repatriated recently.

The District Tribal Welfare Association has responded by calling for the immediate transfer of the Labour Officer and announced to stage a gherao around the District Collector's office on March 12.

Official Response

No comments from the District Labour Officer were received over the matter.

However, an Assistant Labour Officer has assured that government aid would be dispensed in line with established guidelines.
