A PG first year student of Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati (MKCG) Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur died under mysterious circumstances on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Subhani Patnaik, a student of the dermatology department at the medical college.
According to sources, Subhani was rescued from her hostel room in critical condition and admitted to the hospital. However, she died while undergoing treatment.
Though the exact reason behind her death was not immediately ascertained, an overdose of migraine medicine is believed to have caused her death, sources informed.
Till the last report came in, the police have seized the body and sent it for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.
“The PG girl student was staying in the medical college hostel. She had some medicines after a migraine attack and when she was admitted to the hospital, where the doctor declared her received-dead. We have sent the body for autopsy,” said Bhairab Bhuyan, in-charge of MKCG police outpost.
“A case of unnatural death has been registered following the death of Subhani Patnaik, a first year PG student of Skin and VD department and subsequently, a post-mortem was performed. We were told that she was suffering from some disease. We have kept all her tissues for histopathological finding. Her viscera has been preserved. We will know the final cause of death,” said Dr Professor Sudipta Das of MKCG.
