Odisha Matric exam from tomorrow, teachers continue stir in Bhubaneswar

The crucial Class 10 or the matriculation examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) Odisha is all set to start tomorrow. However, it is likely that the board exam may face issues as several teachers under the banner of Odisha Secondary School Teachers’ Association (OSSTA) have threatened not to cooperate in the conduct of the exam.

The teachers of 194 category schools claimed that they have been imparting education to students for the last 30 years without salaries. There are around 30,000 such teachers in the state.

The teachers are staging demonstration at Lower PMG area in Bhubaneswar. The teachers are demanding salary as per 7th pay commission and grant to school among other demands.

“Our demand is nothing new and from Odisha government to all officials know about it. We have been continuing our agitation since August 9. The matriculation exam is tomorrow but state government has a lot of time to resolve our grievances,” said an agitating teacher.

Another teacher said, “The students are ours and we are forced to resort to agitation as we have only got assurances from the state government. It is also affecting students as they are also deprived of our other facilities.”

Meanwhile, the teachers said that they are ready to cooperate in the conduct of the Matric examination if the state government provides some written assurances.
