In a shocking incident, a man's body was found hanging at Gobarghata village under Jaleswar Police Station in Balasore district on Saturday.
However, as per the allegations by local people, the wife of the deceased and her lover murdered him and hung his body to make it appear as a suicide.
The deceased has been identified as Ramakant Ghosh, who reportedly ran a small betel shop at Agarwal Square in Jaleswar to support his family.
According to reports, Ramakant was found hanging with a rope under suspicious circumstances. Villagers, suspecting foul play, detained the alleged lover Manas Ghosh and informed the police. Upon arrival, police rescued the man from the irate crowd and recovered the body.
As per the allegations, Ramakant's wife and her lover conspired to kill him and then hung up his body to make it look like a case of suicide.
Police start investigation
Police have reportedly taken the accused lover into custody and are currently questioning him in connection with the case.
However, no official statement has yet been released by the police regarding the incident.

"They had a quarrel three days back. However, things were resolved, and they started talking with each other. They were sleeping at home. However, I found him (Ramakant) hanging in the wee hours," said the mother of the deceased, Bijayani Gosh.
"I don't know anything about the incident. I came to the spot with my mother after getting a call from the son of the deceased. I was at my home throughout the night, and you can ask it to my wife," said the accused lover Manas Ghosh.
