A man on Sunday was hacked to death in his sleep in a shocking act of violence in Masunihata village under Kaniha block of Angul district in Odisha. The deceased, identified as Babaji Nayak, was allegedly attacked by Bibhuti Nayak, the husband of a woman the former was suspected to have had a love affair with.
According to reports, Babaji was resting in his house on Saturday night when the accused entered and hacked him with a machete. Family members rushed him to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The brutal nature of the attack has raised serious concerns, especially as tensions between the two men had reportedly surfaced earlier over suspicions of an extramarital affair.
Love Affair Suspected Behind Attack
The accused, Bibhuti Nayak, was reportedly driven by jealousy and suspicion of an extra-marital affair between his wife and the deceased. Earlier quarrels between Babaji and Bibhuti had allegedly centered on this suspected romantic involvement. Following the attack, police launched a manhunt and successfully arrested Bibhuti Nayak. He is currently in custody, with further interrogation underway.
Family Seeks Justice for Deceased
“My son was sleeping when Bibhuti Nayak, the accused, came to our house and attacked my son with a machete,” the deceased’s father alleged. “My daughter-in-law rushed over to me asking for help. I rushed there and took him to the hospital but doctors declared him dead. I want justice. I will take legal action against him. The police have already taken him into custody and are questioning him. I want him punished.”
The police have launched an investigation into the matter.
