The Monsoon session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly ended on a chaotic note on Tuesday, one day ahead of its scheduled date. The Monsoon session began on September 22 and was scheduled to end on October 4.
On September 28, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in his statement in the House had termed the Opposition as 'anti-people' and said they cannot return to the House for such activities.
Over this, the House witnessed uproarious scenes till the last day.
On October 2, the CM had also taken a swipe at the Opposition saying, “The Opposition parties are not happy with Odisha’s development journey. Now misleading people with false information has become their sole job. It happens whenever elections come. But people always have rejected them for this.”
The session ended with several issues remaining to be discussed. Besides, the issues of several associations that have been staging demonstrations and sit-ins at lower PMG remained unsolved.
“Speaker Pramila Mallik is not new to the Assembly. She is a six-time MLA. She should have run the House by following the rules and procedures of the Legislative Assembly. But she didn’t do that. She had been under the pressure of the third floor and was feeling helpless. She is solely responsible for the House being chaotic,” said BJP leader and party’s Chief Whip Mohan Majhi.
In his reaction, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jayanarayan Mishra said, “We had raised many questions including on 5T. However, all the questions were rejected. The issues of Sarpanchs, teachers, AYUSH doctors, and many others, who were staging demonstrations at the lower PMG, could not be discussed. The House was brought to an end in an undemocratic way and we are condemning this.”
Congress MLA Taraprasad Bahinipati said, “Arun Sahu had made remarks on the mental health condition of the Leader of Opposition and our senior leader Narasingha Mishra. It is an unfortunate incident.”
“After the House passed the first supplementary statement of expenditure and the Appropriation bill on the first supplementary budget, no government work was left for tomorrow. And keeping the chaotic situation created by the Opposition in view, the Speaker adjourned the House sine die,” said government Chief Whip Prashant Muduli.
