According to sources, in a major move to combat the rising issue of fake job cards in Odisha, Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik confirmed that the e-KYC process for job cards has already been rolled out in Odisha.
The Minister stated that anyone failing to update their job card through e-KYC within the next three months will have their claim for the card revoked.
Additionally, Minister Naik took a swipe at previous (BJD-led) government, suggesting that those responsible for issuing fake job cards during its tenure would be held accountable. The current government has already provided job cards to over 2 lakh beneficiaries in the past year, the Minister added.
Allegedly, the number of fake job cards increased during BJP government’s tenure.
However, Opposition parties, particularly the BJD, have claimed that the number of fake job cards has skyrocketed since the BJP assumed office in the State. The issue has become a point of contention, with political rivals accusing the ruling party of ‘lax administration’.
Implementation of e-KYC is seen as a crucial step in streamlining the process and ensuring only genuine beneficiaries are issued the job cards.
“Fake job cardholders will certainly be caught and be deprived of their job cards; so that, eligible persons will be benefitted. We want poor and eligible people should get the benefits. Presently, a job cardholder has to update the card in three months; otherwise, the card will be revoked,” the Panchayati Raj Minister asserted.
